For the next eight years Sarah and her husband Gene partnered to build a highly successful

. During the early years of the business, Sarah retired from her massage therapy
practice and Gene from his private psychotherapy practice once their USANA income
began to exceed the income from their respective professions.
Fortunately we built our business during those first eight years, because our
world turned upside down in June of 2005 when Sarah suffered a life threatening
cerebral hemorrhage. The neurosurgeon who sealed off the damaged artery said it
was likely she had the defect since birth. She was in a coma for 3 weeks and
with other complications was given little chance to survive. Nine months later
she was released from hospital care. Since Sarah returned home our lives have
centered around her rehabilitation process and relocating our home.
For those of you reading this I want you to imagine what our lives might have
been like had we needed to rely on our former professions to keep our financial
lives afloat. Sarah is paralyzed on her right side and has speech and language
problems. Gene’s life has been centered around caring for Sarah and looking after
the home, both full time concerns, which allows little time or emotional energy
for a profession. In short neither of us have been able to work over the months
and years since the cerebral vascular incident. The bright light in all of this
in addition to Sarah’s miraculous survival has been the USANA business we built
over the preceding eight years, which has continued to pay us weekly since the
incident. This has relieved unimaginable stress from our lives, allowing us to
be debt free and to have the security of a weekly income.
Our business has provided all of this for us while we have been able to be true
to our own values spreading the message of health and assisting others committed
to making significant changes in their health, finances and style of living.
